New Section of Bridal Veil Falls Rail Trail

The Bridal Veil Falls Rail Trail has been completed in cooperation with the US Forest Service and the Lincoln National Forest.

The public is invited to celebrate the Grand Opening of the final portion of the Bridal Veil Falls Rail Trail which includes a new crossing over Crooked Creek.

NOTICE TO CHILDREN and PETS: Portions of the trail will be very bumpy, but not impossible for wheeled child carriers. It will be too crowded for bikes or other wheeled transportation.

Dogs are welcome – be sure to bring your leashes!

Schedule of Events

Harris Hollow 8:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m.
Arrive and Park
Ride shuttle or walk 1/2 mile to new BVF Trailhead on Fresnal Canyon Rd

New Bridal Veil Falls Trailhead 8:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m
Sign in, enter raffle for new GPS ($1 tickets)
Walk 1/4 mile to Crooked Creek Crossing

Crooked Creek Crossing 9:45 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.
Brief Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

Hike New Portion of the Trail 10:00 a.m.
Hike new section of trail to Bridal Veil Falls (~1 1/2 miles)

Bridal Veil Falls and Shelter 11:30 – 1:00 p.m.
Light refreshments: Water and local apples
Raffle of new Garmin hand-held GPS (tickets $1)
Walk or shuttle back to Harris Hollow (~1/2 mile)

Harris Hollow Parking Area will close at 2:00 p.m.
Parking Area is on private property and will be open to the public from 8:30 – 2:00 on October 27, 2012, for this event only.

Directions:
Drive to the intersection of US Highway 82
and Cherry Blossom Ln in High Rolls, NM.
Turn onto Cherry Blossom Ln and follow
the signs to the event. You may wish to
drop passengers off at the new Bridal Veil Falls
Trailhead before continuing to the parking area.

Next Workday October 20, 2012

NMRTA will meet at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday,October 20th for our regular workday at Harris Hollow on Fresnal Canyon Road.  There will be work for all skill levels.  We generally work until Noon.

Bring your own drinking water, work gloves, sun protection and sturdy footwear.  All tools will be furnished.
